Alfred Mapp Jr. was born April 29, 1947 in Forest City, NC. He was the son of the late Alfred and Mary Lou Mapp. As a young man he was one of a few gifted athletes chosen to integrate East Rutherford High School. He helped to lead the football team to a winning season, participated in a state championship and in 1994 was inducted into the high school Hall of Fame.
Alfred graduated in 1966 and upon graduation, married Shirley Rogers, of Forest City, NC. He volunteered to join the United States Army and served for two years. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for the United States postal service until retirement. As a devout man of God, he became the pastor at Mountain View Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, NC. Alfred found peace and entered eternal rest on September 17, 2024.
Alfred Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Lou Mapp, his uncle David Barber, and his sister Dr. Cindy McKinney.
Alfred’s presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, by his children Tina Mapp-Long (Charlotte, NC) and Alfred Mapp III and his wife Lacinda (Fort Mill, SC), along with three grandchildren: Brandon Long, Sydney Mapp and Tyson Mapp. He is survived by four sisters: Lula Mae Price, Mary Lois McKinney and Geneva Baker (Forest City, NC.), Regina Mapp (Inman SC), and a loving host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Thompson Mortuary & Chapel on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 1pm.
