On August 10, 1973, he married Dorothy Littlejohn. Out of this union came Tonya Littlejohn (his stepdaughter) and Earl Thompson Jr. (his son). Later, he met and married Sarah McDowell. Sarah along with his brother, Lawrence played a key role in supporting him through his illness and his transition to be with the Lord.   Butch was passionate about serving the Lord and his community. He served on the Trustee Board at Oak Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years and was Chairman for over 20 years. He served on the Forest City Planning Committee for over 10 years. He served on the Grahamtown G Team for more than 20 years, including 15 years as vice president.
