Marilyn “Monk” Louise Cannady was born January 23, 1968 in Polk County to Mary Cantrell and the late Nathaniel Cantrell. She graduated from Polk Central High School in 1986.
Monk was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. While a member, she served on the usher board and kitchen committee. She enjoyed serving in these capacities and looked forward to being of help to her church family.
Her career was working for National Textiles; however, Monk could be found creating unique braiding styles for many in the community. Her personality and willingness to help those around her, kept her home full and her hands busy. Her big heart helped her establish many lasting friendships.
She leaves behind to cherish her life and precious memories, her two daughters Ricketta Twitty and Jasmine Twitty (Forest City, NC), her son-in-law Juan Salas (Charlotte, NC), three granddaughters Meleiya Salas, Sofia Salas (Charlotte, NC), and Airest Twitty (Forest City, NC), her sisters Genease Hannon (Jamal) (Forest City, NC) and Star Greene (Jessie) (Spindale, NC), and her brother Stencil Robinson. Among those to remember her lovingly, will be a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Monk was preceded in death by her daughter Kamara Salas, maternal grandparents Lee Alfred and Francis Miller, paternal grandmother Elsie Cannady, and brother Buddy Robinson.
Services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 1:00 P.M.
