Minister Queen Esther Black Hamilton was born July 21, 1945 in Atlanta Georgia and departed this life on December 1, 2023 at Hilltop Health and Rehabilitation in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Clarence Sr. and Lucinda Black. Upon losing both parents while she was a child (mom at age 8 and dad at age 17), Queen Esther and her siblings (Jackie, Clarence Jr. “June”, Grace, and Jessie Gail) were brought to Forest City, North Carolina and divided among her father’s cousins who took them in and raised them as their own. From this point until marriage, Queen Esther resided with her foster mother, Rev. Sis. Bessie Baxter.
Queen Esther gave her life to Jesus Christ at a young age and used her musical gifts of singing and piano playing to praise His name throughout her life. She became a life-long member of St. Luke Fire Baptized Holiness Church where she served faithfully for more than 50 years. Queen Esther was also a member of the Jewel Gospel Singers (founded by Rev. Sis. Bessie Baxter) who blessed and inspired the entire Rutherford County Community and beyond with their stirring harmonious songs of praise to God! During this time she also became ordained as a Local Minister of the Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of the Americas. She also worked for Cone Mills Corporation in Henrietta, North Carolina for more than 25 years.
Queen Esther married Spencer Martin Hamilton “Heavy” of Spindale, North Carolina. Spencer was the love of her life, and they brightened each other and all who were blessed to know them with great laughter and love throughout their 33 years of marriage. Queen Esther is preceded in death by her parents Clarence Sr. and Lucinda, foster mother Bessie, siblings; Jackie, Grace, Jessie Gail, and Clarence Jr. “June”, and husband Spencer.
Queen Esther leaves behind with deeply cherished memories her son, Timothy Marcus (Angela) of Gastonia, North Carolina, and her foster brothers; Derek Baxter (Debrah), William “K.K.” Baxter (Viola), and Mark Baxter (Charlotte) of Forest City, brothers-in-law; Rupert Hamilton, Joe Lee Hamilton, Ernest Hamilton, and Roy Whitesides, sisters-in-law; Linda Jackson and Betty Hamilton, and a beautiful host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and many, many friends.
