
Thomas Hardin Jeffries was born in Rutherford County on November 3, 1950. He was the first child born to Joseph H. Jeffries and Addie Sue Logan Jeffries. Hardin passed away on August 24, 2026, at the age of 75.
He was educated in Rutherford County Public Schools, attending Proctor Elementary and Chase High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1969. Hardin continued his education at NC State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1972. He later received a Master's in Business from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.
Hardin worked for several years at Fiber Industries in Shelby. In 1977, he entered the United States Army, where he served a four-year term before completing his military career in the Army Reserves. He was based at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC, and served in Kuwait during Desert Storm.
Hardin was an avid reader, a third-degree Black Belt in Karate, and a lifelong learner. He enjoyed collecting new electronic and automotive gadgets, studying Taekwondo, and collecting self-defense instruments.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H. Jeffries and Addie Sue Logan Jeffries, and two siblings, William Michael Jeffries and Addie Kathryn Jeffries.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Jeffries Laney (Robert); one uncle, Joe Dewberry; and a host of cousins and friends.
Services will be held at New Zion Fellowship Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 12:00pm.
